Training

Introduction

The APSE Training committee has been busy supporting National APSE in moving forward as the leader in Training, Education and Professional Development in the field. Our work continues to lead us in several directions:

The 21st Annual National APSE Conference: This year the conference will take place from June 8-10, 2010 in Atlanta, GA. The APSE conference focuses exclusively on employment of people with disabilities in the community, and it is the premier event for sharing knowledge, expertise and ideas on the latest and best innovations to make employment for all a reality. We are looking for individuals who can help us make this one of the best conferences! Click here for more information and to register.

Community Conversations: hundreds of attendees participated in our first annual APSE Community Conversation at the national conference in Milwaukee.  Using the World Café model we challenged the participants to speak freely on the state of supported employment and the actions that we need to embrace to move our efforts forward. The enthusiasm was inspirational and APSE has collected dozens of suggestions and challenges to move forward on our national plan for enhancing employment opportunities for the individuals that we support. Participants were also charged with taking the Community Conversation back to their state, tool kits were provided and the Training Committee will be available for technical assistance. If you are interested in learning more to host your very own Community Conversation, we are here to support your efforts.

Training Opportunities: The Training Committee will be working with the state chapters to identify opportunities for APSE to provide professional development workshops, conferences, etc. in your back yard. Realizing that training dollars are tight, and travel is limited by funding, APSE will continue to explore and support the development of alternative ways of delivering training. If you are a trainer or want to support APSE in the area of Training and Professional Development, please contact
