Developing Relationships with Employers- It's about asking for time, not jobs.
We know that the most effective method of gaining employment is using networks and connections. This is especially true in challenging labor markets. This webinar will provide information on the employer development process which includes:
-How we prepare to meet with employers-understanding our services and the benefits of each so we can clearly communicate these to employers.
-Using business language to avoid confusion and having to “over explain” what we do.
-Developing and focusing our message to employers.
-How to gain valuable insights into the needs and expectations of our employer customers.
-Networking – it’s hard to do from your office and it isn’t always “office hours”
-Managing information and knowledge about employer customers to make better job matches and ultimately increase employment opportunities.
Presented by Rob Hoffman, Owner/Senior Consultant at Employment Analytics on January 12 and 20, 2012

Natural Job Development - It's about having fun and the right attitude!
Most people would rather walk on hot coals than job develop. Presenter will demonstrate how job development can be more natural, and even fun, when you learn to be yourself and approach employers with the right attitude. Utilizing real stories, successful and not, presenter will show why a long-term relationship with an employer beats a “one night stand.” By the end of this training you should have a new outlook and approach that allows you to facilitate successful work opportunities for your clients while also building long-term, mutually beneficial relationships with employers.  Presented on February 2, 2012 by George Nostrand, APSE Board Member, Mental Health Advocate and Employment Consultant at VOW in Rutland, VT

Effective Public Policy Advocacy for Advancing Employment
Increasing employment of individuals with disabilities requires having laws, policies, regulations, and funding in place that supports a pro-community employment. Particularly in today’s tight fiscal environment, making the case with legislators and other policymakers that employment of people with disabilities is a good return on tax dollars is more important than ever. Participants at this webinar will learn about strategies for effective public policy advocacy – and how to do it on a shoestring! Presented on December 15, 2011 by David Hoff, Co-Chair- APSE Public Policy Committee and Senior Technical Assistance Specialist at ICI UMASS-Boston

Employment First:  From Policy to Practice
Employment First is an exciting public policy initiative that is gaining momentum at the state and federal levels and re-energizing the field of integrated employment. To date, efforts have focused upon conferences, summits, publications, training and technical assistance, agency goals and mission statements, and policies and legislation. As the impacts of these activities are felt, questions are emerging regarding how Employment First can move beyond policy to practice and outcomes. This session will describe implementation of Employment First in one state aimed at expanding capacity and promoting effective and replicable models of service delivery.  Presented on October 31, 2011 by Wendy Parent , Research Associate Professor and Assistant Director, Kansas University Center on DD and Rocky Nichols, Executive Director at The Disability Rights Center of Kansas

Disability and Stigma:  Are you Creating it or Dispelling it?
Doug Crandell, disability employment advocate and author, will discuss how we can all help the cause of inclusion and dignity by the words we choose, and the pictures we create when supporting people with disabilities. Whether it’s writing about his mother’s depression, his sister’s intellectual disability, his own farming accident to his right hand, or his grandfather’s Alzheimer’s, Crandell has authored books where people with disabilities are presented just like everyone else, with strengths, with complexities, and most importantly— with humanity.  Presented on September 8, 2011 by Doug Crandell, Disability Advocate & Author, University of Georgia
